What to Expect During a Sclerotherapy Treatment

Have you scheduled a Sclerotherapy treatment for your varicose veins? If so, you might be a bit concerned about what to expect. That’s perfectly understandable. Being anxious about medical procedures you have never experienced before is common. However, there really isn’t anything to worry about. In addition to getting rid of your uncomfortable symptoms, you should be able to walk right after the procedure. The only thing you’ll have to limit is strenuous exercise for a few days and keep your legs out of the sun for awhile.

The procedure is so simple it’s done in the office of a licensed aesthetic professional. With your affected leg elevated, you’ll receive an injection into your varicose vein. The injection contains a chemical that will damage the inside surface of the vein. As a result, the vein will collapse and force the circulation in your leg to take a different route through healthier veins. Once collapsed, pressure is applied to keep the vein from filling back up with blood whenever you stand.

The entire process takes less than 30 minutes, but the exact length of time depends on how many veins are being treated. The injection might hurt a bit. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t going to. Plus, you might feel a slight cramping sensation or burning in the area where the needle is placed, but the rewards are going to be well worth any discomfort.

Think about it. You won’t have to pay for surgery, you can return to light activities right after the procedure and you won’t have to take time off from work. Your legs are going to look beautiful after the veins fade and heal. While Sclerotherapy isn’t totally comfortable, focus on how nice your life is going to be without any more swelling, burning, throbbing and aching.
