What is the PRP Facial exactly?
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. Derived from your own blood, PRP is applied directly to the skin following a microneedling or laser treatment; this allows it to penetrate the skin more deeply, delivering its potent anti-aging and healing properties more deeply.
The PRP stimulates stem cells and other skin healing properties in the skin, enhancing youthfulness and smoothing skin texture.
What to Expect During a PRP Facial
PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood. Before your facial, we will draw blood and place the tubes in a centrifuge. This separates the PRP from the blood. We often call this “liquid gold,” as it is yellow/gold in color.
With the PRP Facial, you will get a microneedling or laser treatment prior to the PRP application. These treatments are minimally invasive, gentle, and require no downtime. However, we may apply topical numbing cream prior to treatment for your comfort.
After we perform the microneedling or laser treatment on your face, we will then apply PRP and gently massage it into your face.
After-Care & Results
It’s important to avoid direct sunlight and use sun protection while outside. Your skin will be more susceptible to sun damage, so sunscreen is essential. Your face will be a bit red and tender, like a mild sunburn. This will subside after about a day. You will likely experience some peeling, as one of the benefits of treatment is rapid skin cell turnover. This forces the dead/dying skin cells away faster, allowing healthier, youthful skin to emerge.
A series of treatments is required to experience full, lasting results. After the series is completing, patients can return yearly for touch-ups. Routine facials and a high-quality home skin care routine are also recommended to maintain results.
Microneedling with PRP
The most popular PRP Facial starts with a microneedling treatment. A microneedling pen is used to create micro-injuries and micro-channels in the skin. This gently breaks up scars and other skin imperfections. It also stimulates collagen growth and elastin production for rapid healing and anti-aging. Once the microneedling is completed, PRP is applied to complete the treatment.
