You worked hard to get rid of painful, unsightly acne. So, it’s frustrating to see acne scars left behind. Fortunately, you don’t have to live with reminders of past anguish, as there are numerous options available. We have numerous procedures to help reduce the appearance of acne scars in our three convenient Phoenix-area locations. In this article, we will discuss the very popular Fraxel laser treatment for acne scars.
What is a Fraxel laser treatment for acne scars?
Fraxel is a non-ablative laser skin resurfacing device that treats aging and skin damage. This means that the Fraxel is able to treat fine lines, brown spots, sun damage, and scars with little-to-no downtime after each treatment.
Using a directed beam of light, your provider will target specific areas of the face you want treated. This can include reducing pore size, fading sun damage and brown spots, reducing the appearance of fine lines, and smoothing away acne scars.
How does the Fraxel laser treatment for acne scars work?
The beam of light emitted from the Fraxel device breaks up scar tissue while stimulating collagen beneath the skin. This controlled damage to the scar and subsequent collagen production allows the scar tissue to be replaced with new, healthy tissue growth. After a series of treatments, patients see a noticeable improvement in their skin texture and visible reduction of acne scars.
What To Expect During Your Fraxel Treatment
Prior to treatment, your provider will give you a consultation to determine if you’re a good candidate for Fraxel. If you’re a good candidate for Fraxel, we will then proceed with the first of several Fraxel laser treatments.
Prior to each treatment with the Fraxel, your provider will apply a topical numbing cream. This helps ensure your comfort during the procedure. Special eye protection will also be provided to you, as the laser light can damage your vision. Once you’re numb, your provider will use the Fraxel laser light to target the scar tissue.
Fraxel Laser Results and Aftercare
After your Fraxel laser treatment for acne scars, you will have some facial redness. Some patients say it feels a little like a mild sunburn. You will be advised to wear sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight, as your skin is more sensitive to damaging UV rays.
Results from any treatment, including Fraxel, varies from patient to patient. Some patients only require a few treatments while others require several to see the results they desire. In some cases, we may also recommend a combination of Fraxel and other acne scar treatments to help you achieve smoother skin.
What other procedures help with acne scars?
There are other laser technologies besides Fraxel that can be helpful with acne scars. Additionally, we also offer microneedling treatments, which help break up the scar tissue using tiny needles that also stimulate collagen production beneath the skin. Chemical peels are also beneficial for skin scarring. Which treatment we recommend depends on the type of acne scars you have.
