Wrinkles are something we all associate with aging, but prevention that will keep your skin firm and wrinkle-free in your later years can begin early. It might not be years until you see your first wrinkles show up, but by practicing good skin care today you can reduce wrinkles that will threaten you later on.
Our Skin, Our Selves
Our skin is our largest organ and a reflection of our health. Whatever we put into our bodies and expose our skin to will leave its mark on our health as well as our appearance. Wrinkles are a natural sign of aging and collagen loss, but there is much you can do, even as a teenager or young adult, to reduce wrinkles that show up later in life.
The best anti aging plan is to simply treat yourself well. Drink enough water, get enough sleep and don’t smoke cigarettes. These three things in themselves are perhaps the best anti wrinkle prevention possible. Nourish your body and avoid obvious toxins, such as cigarette smoke, and your middle age face will show less wear. You can buy facial creams and treatments to address the small wrinkles that do develop, too, so your skin is always smooth.
Boring Old Sunscreen
You’ve surely been told it more than once, but it still stands worth repeating: wear sunscreen! Research shows that up to 90% of skin damage comes from the sun. Exposure to UV rays damages your skin cells and this can have lasting effects. The best wrinkle creams won’t save you in the long run if you don’t take the simplest anti aging step possible: stay out of the sun. However, if sun damage has already been done, wrinkle creams can help you reduce the effect and look your best.
Avoid direct sunlight and, when you are out in it, wear light, airy clothing to protect your skin. When choosing a sunscreen, make sure it is SPF 15 at the very least and don’t forget to apply regularly. Though direct sunlight certainly presents the most danger, it is a smart anti wrinkle practice to apply sunscreen on bright days, even if they are cloudy.
Simple Wrinkle Creams
As a young adult, take good care of your skin. Don’t let it get too dry or too oily. Wash off makeup with a gentle soap every night to keep your pores fresh. It’s also a good idea to give your face a break from makeup now and then, too. When your face is freshly clean, apply Vitamin E oil to revitalize the area as well as decrease whatever wrinkle lines may already be appearing.
